Waterjet-cut gaskets

Conquest Seal is a gasket manufacturer: sheet gaskets are waterjet-cut to your print in our own shop, from EPDM, FKM, silicone, nitrile, neoprene and PTFE sheet and most of the other sheet materials indexed below. A gasket seals the joint between two flat faces, and its shape is whatever your drawing says it is. There is no die or other tooling, so standard flange shapes and one-off profiles, from a handful of prototypes to a production run, are cut the same way. Send a DXF, DWG or PDF with the quantity and a Conquest representative quotes it.

Sheet materials we cut

Every gasket sheet material on this site, one page each with the cited ranges and callouts. All of them are waterjet-cut to your drawing in Orange, California except felt, tanged graphite and mica, which are cut by the sheet maker or a cutting partner; closed-cell sponge and open-cell foam both go on our waterjet. The custom gaskets page covers the process and what to send; foam gaskets compares the sponge and foam sheets, and medical foam gaskets covers the foams makers test for medical devices.

Ratings are our own summary by material family: the nine media groups and the five-step scale are our arrangement, not a copy of any maker's chart, drawn mainly from the Parker O-Ring Handbook (ORD 5700) family descriptions and, for EPDM, Parker's compound data sheets; the compound datasheet governs. Hardness bands marked "seal makers' tables" span the published seal compounds in NOK Corporation's oil seal catalog 014E (read 2026-09-25; its lip-material table, which the approved bands cite, read 2026-09-16) and Freudenberg Sealing Technologies' rotary seals technical manual (read 2026-09-16); every other hardness is stated on the compound, grade or sheet datasheet. Temperature limits are continuous-service class ranges, and the special compounds named in the range column extend them. Not rated means no published family rating on file, not a pass. Unsatisfactory is the Parker handbook's own rating 4 (section VII fluid compatibility tables).

Orders are handled under Conquest Seal's AS9100D quality management system, whose certificate scope includes distribution. The certificate, CONQ-001, is on the certificate page, and what ships with each part is on the quality and certifications page.

Frequently asked

What tolerance does a waterjet-cut gasket hold?

It depends on the part's size, the sheet and its thickness. State the tolerance your fit needs on the drawing, and the quote confirms what the waterjet holds on that part. The jet leaves a square edge with no heat and no die.

What sheet thicknesses and forms can be cut?

Solid rubber, silicone, FKM and PTFE sheet is cut in the thicknesses its makers supply, and each material page lists the common sheet thicknesses. Closed-cell sponge and thin films are cut too. State the thickness on the drawing and whether adhesive backing is wanted; adhesive-backed sheet is cut with the liner on.

Can you cut PTFE, FKM and neoprene gaskets?

Yes, and the waterjet is the right process for them. Laser cutting is never used on PTFE, FKM, neoprene or other chlorinated or fluorinated rubbers because they give off toxic gases when burned; the waterjet cuts them clean and nests expensive sheet tightly with no die skeleton waste. Fiber sheet to ASTM F104 and cork-rubber cut the same way.

Which materials do not go on the waterjet?

Metal-inserted (tanged) graphite, because the jet strips the facing off the metal core; felt, which soaks up water; mica; and laminates with metal layers. Those parts, and kiss-cut parts that must stay on their liner, are cut by the sheet maker or a cutting partner. Closed-cell sponge and open-cell foam, medical foams included, are cut on our own waterjet. Send the material and the quote says which process the part gets.

How should the drawing call out the gasket material?

For rubber sheet, an ASTM D2000 line callout. Its letter pair is a type, set by heat-aging resistance, and a class, set by oil swell (the standard's public scope), so it describes a performance envelope rather than a polymer; the polymer itself is named by its ASTM D1418 abbreviation, such as NBR, EPDM, CR, VMQ or FKM. Fiber and PTFE sheet use ASTM F104 instead, and sheet rubber for military work may cite MIL-PRF-1149. If the print names only a material and a durometer, name the grade or specification you want quoted.

Send the gasket drawing and the quantity

A DXF, DWG or PDF, the sheet material and thickness if the print names them, and the quantity. Gaskets are cut in our own shop in Orange, California; a Conquest representative replies.
