Silicone Sponge Gasket Material
Silicone sponge is closed-cell silicone rubber for gaskets that must stay soft in ovens, outdoor enclosures and aircraft interiors. The two aerospace callouts are AMS3195 (medium) and AMS3196 (firm). We cut it to your drawing on the waterjet, plain or with adhesive backing.

What silicone sponge seals
Silicone sponge keeps its softness and its recovery across a wide temperature span, so it is the door and lid gasket for ovens, autoclaves, lighting, outdoor electrical enclosures and aircraft interior panels. It resists ozone and sunlight and takes very little water [S4]. The medium grade suits most enclosure seals; the firm grade suits latched doors and gaskets that see repeated compression.
It is not an oil or fuel sheet. For hydrocarbons at ordinary temperatures use neoprene or nitrile sponge; for solid silicone under a bolted load use the solid silicone sheet.
AMS3195 or AMS3196
AMS3195 covers closed-cell silicone sponge of medium firmness and AMS3196 the firm grade [S1, S3]. Prints for aircraft and defense work name one of the two, often with a UL 94 or FAR 25.853 flame requirement alongside. Commercial prints often name a maker's grade instead, such as BISCO HT-800, which is an AMS3195 sheet rated UL 94 V-0 [S4]. State the callout and the flame rating on the drawing and the sheet is matched to both.

How we cut it
Gaskets are waterjet-cut to your drawing in Orange, California. Send a DXF, DWG or PDF with the thickness, the material or the specification callout, and the quantity. There is no die to build, so a single prototype and a repeat run go through the same setup, and a revision needs only a new file. The sheet comes from the sheet makers we buy from, to the callout on your print; the cutting is ours. Silicone sponge is offered with pressure-sensitive adhesive laminated to one face by the sheet maker [S4]; adhesive-backed sheet is cut with the liner on.
Where Silicone Sponge is used, and the usual alternatives
The print or the sheet datasheet governs; these are the sheets usually specified instead:
- Solid silicone: when the gasket carries a bolted flange load or needs a smooth sealing face.
- Closed-cell sponge: when the enclosure stays near room temperature and cost matters.
- PORON® foam: when a thin, low-set pad is wanted below 90 C.
- Adhesive backing: when the gasket must stay on a door or panel during assembly.

Frequently asked
What is the difference between AMS3195 and AMS3196?
Both are closed-cell silicone sponge. AMS3195 is the medium-firmness grade and AMS3196 the firm grade. The print names the one it wants.
How hot can a silicone sponge gasket run?
The HT-800 data sheet gives a range of -55 C to 200 C, and the AMS3195 sheet stays flexible from -75 C to 205 C. Check the maker's sheet for the exact grade on your print.
Is silicone sponge flame rated?
Some grades are. BISCO HT-800 is listed UL 94 V-0. If the print calls a flame rating, name it with the material callout.
Can I get it with adhesive?
Yes. The sheet maker laminates pressure-sensitive adhesive to one face, and the gasket is cut with the liner on so it peels and places.
Will silicone sponge take oil or fuel?
No. Use neoprene or nitrile sponge for oil mist and fuel vapor, and keep silicone sponge for heat, cold, weather and ozone.
