Every common gasket sheet material is quick for us to source, and we cut it to your print on our waterjet.
Viton (FKM) is the gasket material for fuels, oils, many acids and heat to 204 C (400 F): the Parker O-Ring Handbook (ORD 5700) rates the family from -26 C (-15 F) to 204 C continuous, with low-temperature grades to -46 C. Conquest cuts Viton sheet gaskets on the waterjet, nesting the sheet tightly because the material is expensive and a die would waste it. The material family is FKM, and other makers' FKM sheet meets the same callouts.
What we cut
Conquest cuts sheet gaskets on a pure-water waterjet, the one product made in house. Typical figures for waterjet-cut gaskets, as fabricators and a waterjet maker publish them rather than a Conquest machine spec: a pure-water jet cuts sponge 2 in thick and solid rubber over 1 in with a square edge and no die concavity (Stockwell Elastomerics), leaves a kerf of 0.003 to 0.015 in (Flow International), and holds plus or minus 0.010 in on dimensions under 12 in and plus or minus 0.020 in on larger parts (NEDC, sponge and foam gaskets). There is no die to build, so prototypes, revision changes and short runs go through the same setup as a repeat, and expensive stock nests tightly with no die-skeleton waste. Molded and lathe-cut parts, and non-sheet compounds, are supplied from our manufacturers.

Where Viton gaskets work, and where they fail
| Medium or condition | Verdict | Note (Parker O-Ring Handbook ORD 5700) |
|---|---|---|
| Engine, gearbox and hydraulic oil | Excellent | The core FKM application |
| Gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aromatic blends | Excellent | Additives that swell nitrile |
| Chlorinated solvents, aromatics | Excellent | Fluorine content resists swell |
| Concentrated acids at room temperature | Good on acid grades | Concentrated hot acid defeats every elastomer |
| Ozone, weathering, vacuum | Excellent | Saturated backbone; low permeability |
| Hot water and steam | Poor in standard grades | EPDM, or a steam-rated FKM or FFKM |
| Ketones, amines, glycol brake fluid | Not recommended | EPDM for ketones and brake fluid; FFKM for amines |
Where Viton is used, and the usual alternatives
It is usually specified for fuel and oil flanges at temperature, chemical-processing covers, fryer and hot-oil food lines on a compliant compound, and anywhere nitrile runs out of heat or chemical headroom. It is not the sheet for steam, hot water, brake fluid or ketones, where an EPDM gasket belongs, and nitrile is usually specified where the duty is oil under 100 C, since it does the same job at lower cost. For mixed aggressive chemistry beyond FKM, the FFKM guide covers the next step; the Viton O-ring guide covers the same material in O-ring form.

Frequently asked
Is FKM the same as Viton?
FKM is the material family; Viton is Chemours' trademark. A print that says FKM accepts any qualified FKM sheet.
Can Viton gaskets take steam?
Standard grades cannot; the handbook lists steam among FKM's failures. EPDM is the usual steam material.
Why not laser-cut Viton?
Laser cutting decomposes chlorinated and fluorinated polymers into toxic gases, so we cut them on the waterjet.
What durometer for a flange gasket?
75 A is the default; 60 A conforms better to rough faces, 90 A resists extrusion under high bolt load or pressure. See the durometer guide.
