Aerospace O-ring family, silicone, AMS7267

AS9386 O-rings: silicone 70 to 80 to AMS7267

AS9386-XXX is a silicone (VMQ) O-ring made from AMS7267 material, the heat resistant, low compression set silicone in the 70 to 80 hardness class, in the standard AS568 size the dash names. AS9385-YY is the same material in the straight-thread boss sizes. Both SAE drawings and AMS7267 are current, and MS9386 and MS9385 are the legacy callouts.

Designator to AS568 size

AS9386-XXX is the AS568-XXX size and AS9385-YY the boss size AS568-9YY, per the manufacturers' cross-references. MS9386 and MS9385 carry the same dashes. The dash never changes the material.

Where the documents stand

This family is SAE-native: both drawings name AMS7267 in their titles, so there is no MIL supersession chain. SAE reaffirmed both in 2018 and revised AS9385 to A on 2020-10-26 and AS9386 to B on 2021-07-07, and AMS7267 is at revision H of 2021-05-19. The MS9385 and MS9386 numbers on older drawings are the legacy callouts for the same two drawings.

One manufacturer's cross-reference states that the boss sizes have been folded into the AS9386 number, but SAE revised AS9385 to A in 2020, so this page keeps both numbers and quotes whichever the print reads.

The base polymer

The polymer behind this family is silicone (VMQ). The Parker O-Ring Handbook ORD 5700 family range on file for Silicone (VMQ) is -54 C to 204 C; that is the polymer family's range, not this document's requirement, and the compound sheet for the qualified grade governs. Parker notes that specification temperature limits do not necessarily represent operating temperature limits.

How we quote this family

Send the designator as printed, AS9386-XXX or AS9385-YY (or the MS9386 / MS9385 form from an older drawing), with the dash, the quantity and the certification the order needs. We quote it supplied against the AS drawing in an AMS7267 silicone compound, with a certificate of conformance and lot traceability. If the print names a compound number, include it and we quote that compound.

Frequently asked

What material is an AS9386 O-ring?

Silicone (VMQ) made from AMS7267 material, the heat resistant, low compression set silicone sealing-ring document in the 70 to 80 hardness class; the AS9386 title names AMS7267 outright. Manufacturers supply it at 75, and Parker ORD 5700 (2021) pairs S0355-75 with AMS7267.

What is the difference between AS9385 and AS9386?

Size series. AS9386-XXX carries the standard AS568 sizes and AS9385-YY the straight-thread boss sizes, both on AMS7267 silicone. One manufacturer states the boss sizes now sit under AS9386, but SAE revised AS9385 to A in 2020, so quote whichever number the print reads.

What is AMS7267?

An SAE silicone rubber sealing-ring document, heat resistant with low compression set, 70 to 80 hardness, current at revision H of 2021-05-19. It is the material behind AS9386 and AS9385. It differs from AMS3304, the general heat and weather resistant silicone behind AS3582.

My drawing says MS9386; is that the same part?

MS9386 is the legacy callout for the AS9386 drawing on AMS7267 silicone, and MS9385 the legacy boss callout for AS9385. Ask with the quote for the MS records' status. Send the callout as the print reads it and we quote the AMS7267 part with the MS number noted on the paperwork.
