VC and VB seals: grease and dust seals with no spring

A VC seal is a springless lip in a rubber outside diameter that holds grease in or keeps dust out; the VB is the same with a metal outside diameter. Conquest Seal supplies radial shaft seals, also sold as rotary shaft seals, rotary lip seals and oil seals, in inch and metric sizes. Send the part number or drawing and we quote it.

Conquest Seal's own line drawing of a generic lip seal section; not a maker's drawing and not to scale.

When to use it

Holding grease in or keeping dirt out. Not a pressure seal in any degree. Often fitted with a lip seal rather than instead of one: it takes the dirt so the primary seal does not have to.

Watch for

The maker states these types cannot be used for pressure applications at all.

  • VB: Grease and dust seal, metal outside diameter, no spring. As VC, with a metal outside diameter. The bore needs the precise seat a metal outside diameter gives.

A designation match is not a fit, form and function match. These schemes measure different things, and the same letter means different things in different catalogs. Confirm the three dimensions, the lip material and the duty against the drawing before substituting any seal.
