Engineered sealing solutions: supply and technical support

At Conquest Seal, engineered sealing solutions means supply and technical support: we supply O-rings, seals and gaskets to the design on your print, and the design stays yours. The support comes before the quote: reviewing the print, cross-referencing the part number, trade name or specification to the current document, and sending the maker's data sheet so your engineer can choose the compound against it. M83248/1, for example, is still on prints: DoD canceled it in 2008 and pointed future purchases to SAE AS3209 (boss sizes to AS3208), and SAE later issued AS83248/1 (2014), which DoD adopted on 2025-11-03. Orders are handled under Conquest Seal's AS9100D quality management system, whose certificate scope includes distribution.

Print review
Size against AS568 and ISO 3601-1; material callout decoded; waterjet producibility flagged, changes yours to make
Callout decode
ASTM D2000 and SAE J200 line callouts, for example M2BG510 B14: material type (heat aging) and class (oil swell), then the further requirements
Specification cross-reference
MS28775 to MIL-PRF-25732 and AS28775; M83248/1 to AMS7276, with AS3209 named by DoD's 2008 cancellation (boss sizes AS3208) and AS83248/1 issued by SAE in 2014 (DoD-adopted 2025-11-03); M25988 to MIL-DTL-25988 and SAE-AMS-R-25988; EPDM phosphate-ester rings to NAS1613; M83461/1 to SAE-AS83461/1, with the compound under AMS-P-83461
Compound families
Parker® ORD 5700 family ranges (section 2.2, read 2026-09-14; page 7-2 table, read 2026-09-25) run from -73 C (fluorosilicone) to 320 C (FFKM); named FFKM grades on file reach 327 C (Kalrez® 7075) and -42 C (Kalrez 0040) on the maker's CPI product selector guide, KZE-A40126 (read 2026-09-14)

Print review for quoting

A print is checked against the size standard first: an inch ring against the AS568 list and a metric ring against ISO 3601-1, where many sizes a print calls custom are standard and the inch-derived ISO size code is the AS568 dash number itself. The material callout is decoded next; an ASTM D2000 line callout such as M2BG510 B14 names the material by type, based on heat aging, and by class, based on oil swell, then adds values for the further requirements, with any suffix tests on top. Gasket prints are checked for waterjet producibility: the tolerances, the smallest holes and the web widths the process can hold on that sheet. We flag what the process cannot hold; any change to the print is yours to make.

Material cross-reference and selection data

Trade names cross to families: Viton® is FKM, Buna-N is nitrile and Kalrez is FFKM. The family sets the service range on the Parker O-Ring Handbook (ORD 5700) figures this site quotes, from its section 2.2 (read 2026-09-14) and, for FFKM, its page 7-2 service-temperature table (read 2026-09-25): FKM -26 C to 204 C, nitrile -34 C to 100 C, EPDM -57 C to 150 C, silicone -54 C to 204 C, fluorosilicone -73 C to 177 C and FFKM -26 C to 320 C. Where a print names a compound or a specification we quote to it; where it names only a family, we ask which compound or specification to quote and send the maker's data sheet with the quote. The data sheet, not the family range, is the number to design to. Compounds come in standard grades and in AMS and MIL specification grades from the compounders and molders we source from.

Which sealing solutions are best for precision machining environments?

It depends on where the seal sits in the machine: O-rings or cut gaskets for static joints, radial shaft seals or non-contacting labyrinth seals for spindles and rotary shafts, and rod and piston seals behind a wiper for cylinders. Static joints in coolant lines, pumps and housings need a compound the coolant maker's data sheet accepts. A spindle seal is rated for the shaft speed, and a labyrinth seal takes over where a rubbing lip would not last. A cylinder's wiper keeps chips and swarf off the rod seal.

The coolant and the temperature decide the compound, so send the coolant's name and data sheet with the print, the shaft speed and the temperature. We quote the seal your print or the machine builder's parts list calls out, and the choice of seal stays with your engineer. Seals machined from PTFE and other plastics are a different question, covered on the machined plastic parts page.

Specification and obsolete-part cross-references

Specifications move and prints do not. MIL-P-83461 was canceled in 2003 and is superseded by AMS-P-83461; MS28775 is carried by AS28775; and when DoD canceled M83248/1 in 2008 it pointed future purchases to SAE AS3209 (boss sizes to AS3208), while SAE later issued AS83248/1 (2014), which DoD adopted on 2025-11-03.

M25988 is the harder case, because two dated DoD records point in opposite directions. DoD's notice of 2018-01-02 withdrew its adoption of AMS-R-25988, which SAE had canceled in August 2017, and named MIL-DTL-25988 as the superseding document. MIL-DTL-25988D Notice 1 of 2025-06-11 marks the MIL document inactive for new design; SAE-AMS-R-25988, which SAE revised to revision B in June 2023, supersedes it in part. An M25988 callout therefore still needs the current revision of each document named on the quote.

When a manufacturer discontinues a part number, we find the current equivalent from the manufacturers we source from, and the certificate of conformance names the new manufacturer. Approval of the substitute is yours; the quote gives you the document, the manufacturer and the compound to approve it against.

Statuses read from DLA ASSIST and SAE Mobilus on 2026-09-24, 2026-09-25, 2026-09-27 and 2026-09-28, and the MIL-R-83248/1A cancellation notice (Notice 5) on 2026-09-29.

Documentation

Every order ships with a certificate of conformance naming the part number, the specification, the manufacturer, the lot, the quantity and the manufacturer's cure date, and the manufacturer's test report where the program requires it. First-article inspection documentation to AS9102 is available on request. Aerospace elastomers carry the manufacturer's cure date, with shelf life per SAE AS5316 (formerly ARP5316). Please don't send a drawing marked ITAR, EAR, CUI or export-controlled. For those parts, call (714) 632-9830.

The mil-spec chart lists the documents and their current status, the AS9102 guide explains first article documentation, and the capabilities page covers how orders with requirements beyond the size and the compound are supplied.

Send the print, the part number or the callout and we quote it.
